vacation / birthday / tunnelton tunnel
Written by jlgaddis on February 7, 2006 – 12:32 am -Well, my vacation is just about over.
I’ve been on vacation for the last week. Actually, it’s seemed like nearly two weeks. Two weeks ago, I was out of the office on Wednesday and Thursday due to having things going on out of town (meeting in Indy on Wed. and an InfoSec conference in Muncie on Thurs.). I went back to work Friday, then took all of last week off, had yesterday off, and now I’m going back tomorrow.
Saturday was my birthday, so it was nice to have that off. We didn’t really do anything outrageous, which suits me just fine. We took a little road trip to another town, ran around the mall there, and just screwed around for the most part. Lindsey found a pet store and went in to check it out while I investigated the bookstore next door (found a book on the SSCP exam at a nice price). Went out to eat, headed for home, took a “shortcut” and got us lost, according to Lindsey. I did, of course, know exactly where I was at and where I was going, she just didn’t believe me.
Yesterday I took Lindsey down to Lawrence County (my homestead) and gave her the scenic country tour. We were actually headed to “the tunnel”, an old train tunnel near Tunnelton, Indiana. The first train passed through the tunnel 150 years ago, in 1856, and trains still go through it on a daily basis. To really appreciate it, you need to check out the pictures of the tunnel — I promise I have never spraypainted anything inside there wink. This was the first time I had been there since I was a teenager and it’s still pretty cool. If you have Google Earth, you can see it here.
Oh, and Lindsey’s scared of the dark. She hated it. =)
