laptop upgrade: fc5 to fc6

As you’ve probably heard, Red Hat recently released Fedora Core 6. I set up an “at” job to download the ISOs for me from the Indiana University mirror site while the building was closed and burnt them the new day. A few days later, I finally got around to actually doing the upgrade and, amazingly enough, it completed without any issues (well, except for that Fedora Core 6 and VMware Workstation issue).

That was probably eight or ten days ago, and tonight I ran a “yum update” and already there were 381 packages updated. I’m not sure why that is, but the laptop is now up-to-date again.

I have a workstation in my office running Fedora Core 5 as well, but I haven’t gotten around to updating it just yet. Soon, very soon…

From the original post: VMware Server 1.0.1 works very smoothly on Fedora Core 5, and vmware-config.pl runs successfully every time I go through a kernel update. [...]
