VirnetX == Patent Troll

VirnetX, “an Internet security software and technology company”, apparently can’t produce anything worth a damn, so they’ve resorted to becoming a patent troll.

In March, Microsoft was ordered to pay VirnetX $105.8 million for supposedly violating two of VirnetX’s patents. Later, Microsoft settled two other lawsuits for $200 million.

VirnetX has apparently found that they can make more money by suing and “is engaged in commercializing its patent portfolio by developing a licensing program”. Switching to the let’s-sue-everybody business model, VirnetX yesterday filed a patent complaint against a number of companies, including Apple, Cisco, NEC, and Aastra.
